Last weekend I was at an outstanding exhibition of EUK.
One with the reputation of showing very good quality trees from her members.
The demonstration on this tree was done by Kevin Willson (
www.kevinwillsonbonsai.com
) with help of Alain de Wachter.
The tree was provided by Bonsai Plaza van Maarten van de Hoeven.
The tree is originally from to the garden from Farrand Bloch and Rene Rooswinkel from Bonsaifocus.
They always had taken very good care of the tree because it was very healthy and originally 7 meters high.
It has been excavated with a heavy machine, and shortened to one meter high.
Although it was a lot of work for one weekend Kevin Willson has shown an excellent job.
The tree has been cleaned and Kevin has made a choice of the branches that would fit into the final design.
After that he started to work on the dead wood, while Alain was assisting and wired the tree.
The dead wood of this Taxus Fastigiata was very, very hard.
One of the hardened steel mills was broken during the process of carving.
The veins of this species are very specific but no problem at all for the highly skilled an experienced Mr. Willson.
In a blink of an eye the podium was covered with white dust,
and so was his neighbour Dominique Bosch on the podium, who was showing a demo on another excellent tree.
After two days of hard labour the tree was finished.
And what a tree it is!!
If you look closely at the dead wood you notice Kevin’s craftsmanship, he did an outstanding job.
Many thanks for that and the very pleasant afternoon Kevin Willson!
Hope to see you next year for another outstanding Demo.
Btw. We call it: The Scream!
